Sonnet to the Night
The night is dear, a dark but gentle friend
It comforts, protects and envelops you
The best of times a helping hand to lend
The end of ev'ry day it comes anew
Not only for thieves but good men as well
The Earth, at its most beautiful come night
Yet dawn quickly heralds the ringing bell
Still now, I quietly await the light
But before too long it will have to come
Into the world of clamorous clatter
A hot day under the relentless Sun
The noise will begin, my peace will shatter
Yet still not for long. I enjoy the dark
Interrupted by nothing but a lark.
It comforts, protects and envelops you
The best of times a helping hand to lend
The end of ev'ry day it comes anew
Not only for thieves but good men as well
The Earth, at its most beautiful come night
Yet dawn quickly heralds the ringing bell
Still now, I quietly await the light
But before too long it will have to come
Into the world of clamorous clatter
A hot day under the relentless Sun
The noise will begin, my peace will shatter
Yet still not for long. I enjoy the dark
Interrupted by nothing but a lark.
